Where We Work: Central Equatoria State (CES)

Juba, the Central Equatoria State and the national capital, hosts the Headquarters of Health Link South Sudan (HLSS). The HLSS offices are found on Munuki-Gudele Road, Munuki Block C and Plot No. 441. The Headquarters serve as the main administration, coordination and resource mobilization point.

Not only that, HLSS in September last year until December 31st, took over from Medicines Sans Frontiers (MSF) Belgium the provision of Primary Health Care Services in Tong Ping Protection of civilians (PoC) site.

We provided outpatient, inpatient and expanded programme for immunization (EPI) services among others to a population of about 5,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs). At this time, majority of the IDPs had been transferred to Juba Three popularly known as UN House.

For effective consultation and prescription, out of the 66 staff, HLSS recruited 61 IDP community members to constitute the workforce at the PHCC. The rest was a group of technical staff playing systematic and supervisory role to enhance provision of quality health care services.

At this health facility, Malaria, wounds, urinary-tract and respiratory-tract infections were the main cases treated.

At the peak of the on-going crisis in December last year, many citizens fled to the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) bases across the country for safety and protection and have since lived there; some have been transferred to other sites as others voluntarily crossed to neighbouring countries.

Health, water, sanitation hygiene facilities and provision of food and non-food items are key services the IDPs consistently need as most of them still fear to return home.
